In 1953, the year of the world premiere, the press summed up the gist of the organ piece by the then not-yet-30-year-old composer as follows: 'Monumentally powerful, atonal chord patterns in the introduction, a linearly lyrical arioso and an extraordinarily witty fugue, presented with absolute virtuosity, make this musical work of a modern young composer accessible to the listeners in a convincing and impressive way - even on this small organ.'
