Sir George William John Benjamin CBE, born on 31 January 1960, is an English contemporary classical composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher. Notable operas include 'Into the Little Hill,' 'Written on Skin,' and 'Lessons in Love and Violence,' all with librettos by Martin Crimp. Studied with Peter Gellhorn, Olivier Messiaen, and at King’s College, Cambridge. He premiered 'Ringed by the Flat Horizon' at the Proms as the youngest living composer to do so. Conducted new operas, appearances with world-class orchestras, and held prestigious composer residencies. Taught at the Royal College of Music and King’s College London. His numerous awards include the 2001 Arnold Schönberg Prize, the 2015 Prince Pierre of Monaco composition prize, and the 2023 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. Knighted in 2017【47†source】.
