He is noted for orchestral works like Brandenburg Concertos, solo instrumental pieces like cello suites, keyboard works like Goldberg Variations, organ compositions such as Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and choral masterpieces including St Matthew Passion. Born in Eisenach as the last child of Johann Ambrosius, his early life was marked by musical education in Lüneburg after orphaned at age 10. His career spanned across Arnstadt, Mühlhausen, Weimar, Köthen, and Leipzig, where he composed significant works and faced professional conflicts.
