More about John Joubert
John Pierre Herman Joubert was a British composer of South African birth, renowned for his choral works. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, on 20 March 1927, he became associated with Anglican church music. Joubert was an academic in music at the universities of Hull and Birmingham for 36 years. After retiring in 1986, he dedicated himself to composing full-time. His most famous choir pieces include the carols 'Torches' and 'There is No Rose of Such Virtue' and the anthem 'O Lorde the Maker of Al Thing.' Over his career, he composed more than 160 works, including symphonies, concertos, and operas. He spent over 50 years in Moseley, a suburb of Birmingham, England, and remained actively composing into his eighties.
