More about Marcel Dupré
Marcel Jean-Jules Dupré was a French organist, composer, and pedagogue. Born in Rouen into a wealthy musical family, Dupré was a child prodigy. His father was the titular organist of Saint-Ouen Abbey, and at home, they had an organ built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. Dupré studied at the Paris Conservatoire with masters like Louis Diémer and Charles-Marie Widor. He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1914 and gained renown for performing organ recitals worldwide. Dupré succeeded Widor as titular organist at St. Sulpice in Paris in 1934 and was a renowned professor teaching notable organists. His compositions and pedagogical works have greatly influenced the development of organ technique.
