Marvin Frederick Hamlisch (June 2, 1944 – August 6, 2012) was an acclaimed American composer and conductor, notable for his remarkable achievement of winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, a rare honor known as 'EGOT'. Among his many contributions to music, Hamlisch was a child prodigy admitted to the Juilliard School Pre-College Division before he turned seven. His work spanned many mediums, including film, television, and Broadway. Some of his most famous compositions include the scores for 'The Sting' and 'The Way We Were', and the musical 'A Chorus Line', for which he won both a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize.
